Ready for Floor Cleaning? Helpful Pre-cleaning Instructions

move items for floor cleaning prep
Please move toys, furniture and small items out of a room before we arrive to clean your carpets or hard surfaces.

Congratulations! You scheduled a floor cleaning appointment with NEW Solid Surface Cleaning, an experienced, industry-certified, and fully insured cleaning company in the Green Bay area. Now what? What do you need to do before we arrive for hard surface floor cleaning or carpet cleaning? Here are some instructions, so you know how to prepare your rooms for floor cleaning.

Residential customers

Do:

  • Pick up items on the floor or carpet, such as rugs, toys, and plants
  • Move furniture out of the room if possible, including recliners, couches, and sofas. If it’s too difficult, we’ll move them at no extra charge.
  • Leave the driveway open so we can park our van near your home. We require front door or garage door access for our technicians and equipment.
  • Meet us at the door. As an alternative, keep a service door unlocked or provide us with an access code to get inside. We take your trust seriously.
  • Be willing to let us use an outside faucet. Our van carries 100 gallons of water, but we occasionally hook up our hoses to the client’s outdoor or garage faucet.
  • Plan to stay off the carpeting. Hard surfaces dry in 10-15 minutes, while carpets dry in 4-6 hours, depending on the time of year, humidity, and temperature.

Don’t

  • Move heavy furniture, such as entertainment centers, curio cabinets, beds, and dressers. We simply clean around them. We charge by the square footage. As a result, you only pay for the floor we clean, not the entire room.
  • Vacuum the carpet or sweep floors before we arrive. We will use our professional cleaning equipment to clean the carpet, tile and grout, vinyl (VCT), linoleum, stone, or wood floors.
  • Have pets or young children around while we’re cleaning. It’s safer for people and animals alike. Furthermore, we’ll be more efficient by focusing only on floor cleaning.

In addition to residential floor cleaning, NEW Solid Surface Cleaning keeps floors looking their best for commercial customers, also. Here are some instructions for what to do prior to commercial floor cleaning.

Commercial customers

Do:

  • Pick up personal items from underneath and around your desks
  • Place your chair on your desk, if feasible
  • Move lightweight furniture and office equipment off the floor
  • Remove chair mats and rugs
  • Plan to stay off the carpeting. Hard surfaces dry in 10-15 minutes, while carpets dry in 4-6 hours, depending on the time of year, humidity, and temperature.

Don’t

  • Move heavy objects. We can clean around them
  • Worry about disrupting staff and customers. We can schedule floor cleaning at a time that’s convenient for your business. Evening and Saturday appointment are available.

Floor cleaning prep is worth the effort

Ultimately, the preparation for floor cleaning takes some time and effort on your part. However, the results are worth the effort. By following these instructions, you get a more thorough floor cleaning. When we leave, your floors will look and smell great, giving your home or commercial business a gratifying boost. To schedule a residential or commercial floor cleaning appointment, call Randy at 920-604-3773.

Customer Service = Clean Floors, Happy Customers

At NEW Solid Surface Cleaning, we have one simple goal: happy customers. Customer service is our priority, from the moment you schedule your floor cleaning appointment to the moment we pull out of your driveway after the job. Here’s the customer service you can expect from us.

Customer service as Jake arrivesWhen we arrive for floor and carpet cleaning

We’ll greet you at the door with a friendly smile and a hand shake. Then, we’ll ask to see the area you want cleaned: carpet, upholstery, tile and grout, wood, vinyl or natural stone floors. We’ll ask about any special circumstances. Are there any pet stain issues? Have you noticed any other spills or stains? Do we need to watch out for pets or small children while we’re cleaning? Does it matter where we start? What would be most convenient for you?

Certainly, we realize we’re guests in your home, and we do our best to be courteous and considerate of your needs.

Customers typically do a good job moving furniture out of the way for cleaning. If it’s difficult for you to move the furniture yourself, we’ll move it at no extra charge. We can easily place sliders under sofas, loveseats and recliners to move them. Entertainment centers, curio cabinets, beds, dressers and other large furnishings are best left in place. We can clean around them.

While we are cleaning floors and carpetscustomer service floor cleaning

First and foremost, we make sure your property and furnishings are protected while we’re cleaning. The cleaning method we use to clean floors is safe and effective. Every step of the cleaning process is carefully completed by our professionally trained staff. Detail oriented, we use corner guards to prevent our hoses from bumping or rubbing against corners as we clean. We lay towels in transition areas to prevent slips. We make sure to vacuum, pretreat, scrub and rinse all accessible areas of the floor or upholstery.

Before we leave a floor cleaning job

Most customers are concerned about how long it takes for their carpets to dry. Because of this, we always place fans in the carpeted rooms that we’ve cleaned. We are very conscious of having the carpets dry in 4 to 5 hours. That way, you can get back to your normal routine. Any furniture we removed will be put back in place. We’ll pack up our hoses and cleaning tools and be on our way. We can lock up when we leave, if you prefer.

Customer service is our priority

It’s all about providing the best possible customer service we can. Our customers know we’ll take care of any floor or upholstery cleaning they need. To schedule a residential or commercial floor cleaning appointment, call Randy at 920-604-3773.

Our stain removal techniques extend the life of your carpet or flooring and save you money in the long run. Here are the Dos and Don’ts for cleaning up food and drink spills.

Don’t:

Use over-the-counter cleaners, soap or detergents. These stain removers typically aren’t strong enough to remove the stain, and they might set the stain or cause permanent discoloring.

Do:

Blot or dab the spill using a white rag or paper towel. Avoid using a colored rag, because its color may transfer to the surface you’re trying to clean.

Do:

Use the 8-ounce bottle of spot remover we left behind after cleaning your carpet, tile, or vinyl floors. The spot remover is safe for any cleanable surface.

Do:

Call us and tell us what happened. We’ll work with you to determine the best option for stain treatment and removal.

Cleaning solutions for carpet stains

At NEW Solid Surface Cleaning, we know what cleaning solutions to use to remove the stain without discoloring the flooring. Depending on the type of spill, we use an oxidizer or a reducer, whichever is right for the job. Oftentimes, a stain requires a very thorough flushing. We have the water and equipment necessary to flush the carpet, vinyl, and tile floors. We also have techniques to dry floors quickly and safely. You’ll be able to walk on the floor again in no time.

Allergy relief with Just Gone system

allergy reliefSeptember marks the start of the school year, the first day of Fall, and the debut of the Green Bay Packers’ 100th football season. For people who suffer from a seasonal allergy (often called hay fever), September is a time when respiratory problems become one of their toughest competitors in the game of life.

Airborne allergens

Taking the field are opponents like mold and fungus spores which are airborne in summer and fall. Allergy sufferers also deal with their legendary adversary, ragweed pollen, which is wind-borne in late summer and fall. These dominating allergens trigger hay fever symptoms like runny, itchy, and watery eyes, stuffy nose, sneezing, and a yearning for a hard frost and cold weather when seasonal allergies will subside.

Tackling seasonal allergies

Suffering through seasonal allergies is worse than losing a game in the 4th quarter to your worst rival. That’s why it’s important for people with hay fever to develop a game plan to tackle fall allergies.

Just Gone system

We can help. In addition to cleaning tile, grout, carpeting, stone, and vinyl floors, NEW Solid Surface Cleaning also offers allergy relief and odor removal services for homes in the Green Bay area. Our Just Gone system is the “star quarterback” we bring into your home to remove allergens and odors. Just Gone uses naturally occurring Chlorine Dioxide. This chemical is known for its allergen releasing and odor removal capabilities. It leaves your home smelling fresh and allergen-free. Just Gone brings relief to allergy sufferers, in addition to removing troublesome odors in a home.

Removing odor

Unlike odor removal products found on the store shelves, Just Gone doesn’t cover up the smell. It permanently removes it. Odors vanish with one simple and quick application. Just Gone tackles odors caused by:

  • Cigarette and cigar smoke
  • Musty and mildewy basements
  • Sewer and drain backups
  • Dampness and mold
  • Garbage and trash
  • Skunk spray
  • Animal and human urine

Easy way to clean your stone, tile, and grout

how to clean floor tile, stone, groutWouldn’t you love to wave a magic wand to clean your tile floors?

We may not be magicians, but we have the professional tools that will leave your tile floors bright and shiny. Tile and grout cleaning is one of the professional services we offer customers in Northeast Wisconsin. We’ll leave your floors sparkling. Before we walk out your door, we’ll give you some cleaning tips so you can maintain that sparkle on your own.

Here is our recommendation for cleaning manmade ceramic or porcelain tile and natural stone flooring such as travertine, slate, marble, granite, or limestone. (You would clean the floor the same way, whether it’s manmade tile or natural stone.)

  • Sweep the floor to remove any loose dirt or debris
  • Wash the floor with a no-rinse cleaner, also known as a neutral pH cleaner
  • A vinegar/water mixture is a natural alternative that works well also. Add a few ounces of vinegar to a quart of warm water, and start mopping
  • A steam mop works well, as well as micro-fiber mops
  • Avoid multi-surface cleaners like Top Job, Pine-Sol or Mr. Clean because they can leave a soapy residue in the grout line that’s a magnet for dirt. If you do use these detergents, be sure to rinse the floor thoroughly after cleaning.

Keeping the grout lines clean and stain free can be tricky. Grout is concrete, and it’s very porous. It absorbs dirt, mold, mildew, and bacteria and can erode over time. To keep the grout line clean and to prolong its life, we recommend sealing it. Sealing protects the grout line for 5-6 years. Flooring installers typically don’t return after the grout has cured to seal it, so it’s one of the professional cleaning services we offer.

How often you clean your tile or stone floor depends on your lifestyle. Homes with kids and pets or businesses with high traffic areas require more frequent cleaning.

We recommend contacting us to schedule floor cleaning every year or every other year. When the floor loses its shine, it’s time to give us a call to schedule a professional cleaning.

We’ll perform the magic that leave your floors sparkling. Call Randy at 920-604-3773 to schedule your appointment.

NEW Solid Surface Cleaning is now certified in natural stone restoration and refinishing – Call for a quote

stone floor refinishing - restoration Green Bay refinishing marble floors granite counter-tops Green Bay Randy Grygiel of NEW Solid Surface Cleaning in Pulaski has completed the MB Maintenance of Natural Stone Course taught by restoration specialist Stu Rosen. At the intensive, four-day class in Wilson, North Carolina, Randy gained hands-on experience in identifying types of stone, honing and polishing stone floors, fixing chips and cracks, and polishing vertical and horizontal pieces of stone.

“There’s nothing like doing it hands-on and learning from an expert,” Randy said.
Stone repair specialists are in demand in Green Bay and the Fox Cities, and NEW Solid Surface Cleaning now has the knowledge and experience to meet that demand.

“As floor care specialists we are dealing with all types of floors, and we’re getting asked more and more to look at stone counter-tops, showers, and floors,” Randy said. When a manmade tile is damaged, you replace it. When natural stone is damaged by cracks, chips, or unevenness, it needs to be repaired.

The first objective of the course was to learn how to identify different kinds of stone. There are hundreds of types of marble, granite, slate, limestone, and other natural stones.
“That was the most beneficial — learning how to identify stone and what process that stone needs to restore it,” Randy said. “If you don’t know how to do it properly you can damage a floor.”

The course also covered a wide range of techniques for maintenance and repair:

  • Cleaning and stain removal
  • Repairing scratches and chips
  • Removing the unevenness between tiles (lippage removal)
  • Terazzo refinishing
  • Honing stone to a smooth matte finish for a natural look
  • Polishing stone to a highly reflective vibrancy for a glossy look
  • Restoring shower stalls (including grout repair and caulking)

Randy also learned a process to repair etching, a condition which occurs when soft marble, limestone, and Travertine come in contact with something acidic. “You can set a glass of orange juice down, and it leaves a ring on a polished surface. We can fix that,” Randy said. “Now that I’ve taken the class we can offer restoration services like these.”

Natural stone sometimes needs just a good cleaning and polishing, and NEW Solid Surface Cleaning has been providing these services for years. Now NEW Solid Surface Cleaning has invested in the equipment and training to be a full-service restoration and refinishing provider.

Call Randy at 920-604-3773 to discuss restoration and refinishing options for your natural stone floors, countertops, and shower stalls.
